Swim Team

Will told me that this summer he wanted to be on a swim team. I asked him a few times as summer approached and he consistently said "yes". We talked about the fact that there were practices every morning and that the water may be cold (he hates being cold) and he still did not budge. I signed him up and he loves it. He is upset when it is not a practice or a swim meet day. After the 1st week Jack decided that he wanted to go to one of Will's practices to watch. After that practice, Jack announced that he wanted to join the team too. I was really surprised but glad he wanted to try something new.

They both now swim for the Elkhorn swim team.  We have been lucky enough to watch every meet in 100-plus weather! They had their final "all city" meet last night and it was 106 degrees on my car thermometer when we were en-route. It last 5 hours! Jack was almost swimming in the dark for his last medley relay.

Will came in 2nd place for backstroke out of 10 kids and also swam freestyle which he competed against 36 kids his age. Jack also swam backstroke and came in 2nd for his heat but ended up somewhere around 7th when combined with the other heats. Jack is the youngest in his age group and there is a lot of competition so we were proud of him for sticking with it and having fun.

I am so glad that this will help them become stronger swimmers and improve their strokes and stamina. I think Hannah might be intersted eventually too!

Lake Calamus

We headed off for a few days at Lake Calamus with 6 other families and had a great time. There were about 25 kids and keeping track off all of them in the water was a full-time job for everyone!

Jack and Will spent a lot of time in the boats and tubing. They also enjoyed sumo wrestling each other off of the tubes. Hannah played in the water with the many girls that are all her age and Max refused to walk on the sand for the entire time we were there. Darren and others thought that I should just let him scream it out but I felt bad for him. He screamed as if he was being beaten every time I put him down. He loved the boat rides and loved being in the water if he was carried but hated that sand!

The kids rode their bikes for hours, ate a lot of junk and stayed up late. Everything that they love to do!

4x4 Tournament

Jack played a few weeks of 4 on 4 basketball in June. Another Jack's mom was nice enough to  "coach" and they had fun even though they did not win many games. Their team name was "Crushers"!

Spiderman in 3D

Darren took Will to see Spiderman in 3D the weekend it came out. Will was so excited that he fell asleep on the way to the movie. Minutes later he was awake and ready to go with his 3D glasses. Darren and I laugh about how often Will falls asleep in the car. He could get up at 7am and fall asleep on the way to school at 8am! Darren and Will both thought the movie was great!
